Ergonomic lifting
rules, tips and solutions

Prevent work absences

Why lifting correctly is so important

Anyone who has ever trained with heavy weights at the gym knows that lifting is a mental challenge – not just a matter of strength. When deadlifting and transferring loads, correct technique determines whether the spine remains stable or is overloaded due to poor posture. This applies not only to sport, but also to everyday working life.

Anyone who lifts, carries and moves things on a daily basis needs more than just muscle power; they need ergonomic know-how and, where possible, technical support.

Correct lifting techniques protect your health

One wrong lift and you'll feel it in your back: if you don't pay attention to the correct posture, you risk health consequences. Whether lifting boxes, tools or materials, regularly lifting incorrectly is one of the biggest risk factors for back pain and musculoskeletal disorders. This means that simple everyday situations in warehouses, production or trade can quickly become a health risk. Knowing and implementing ergonomic lifting techniques is therefore not optional, but mandatory.

The 6 most important rules for safe lifting

1. Stable stance: Place your feet hip- to shoulder-width apart to ensure a secure base and good balance.

2. Correct lifting technique: Squat down with your back straight. Avoid lifting with a rounded back or from a standing position.

3. Core stability and breathing: Before lifting, tense your core muscles to stabilise your spine. Draw strength specifically from your legs. Exhale while lifting – this supports body tension and protects your back.

4. Minimise strain: Keeping the load as close to your body as possible minimises strain on the spine. Even a distance of ten centimetres can double the strain on the intervertebral discs.

5. Avoid twisting movements: When carrying and setting down, do not twist your upper body. Instead, move with small steps over your feet.

6. Pay attention to weight distribution: distribute loads as evenly as possible between both hands to avoid uneven strain.

Why these rules are important

Incorrect lifting is one of the most common causes of accidents in everyday working life. The lower back is particularly affected, as enormous forces act on the intervertebral discs when movements are performed incorrectly. If a load is lifted with a bent back and straight legs, the strain on the spine can be multiplied. Even a weight of 20 kilograms can cause peak loads of more than 300 kilograms.

Correct lifting techniques help to significantly reduce this physical strain. Lifting with a straight back and bent knees uses the strength of the legs and at the same time protects the sensitive structures in the back. Twisting movements during lifting should also be avoided: rotations with a loaded spine significantly increase the risk of strains and slipped discs.

In addition, conscious, ergonomic lifting promotes concentration and reduces the risk of accidents: those who plan how they pick up a load, where they transport it and how they set it down are acting with foresight. This is precisely the basis for safe working. Especially for repetitive tasks in warehouses, production or crafts, a clean lifting technique pays off in the long term: physically, economically and in terms of health.

Timmer technology as a logical continuation of the lifting principle

The recommendations for ergonomic lifting focus on personal responsibility and awareness. As specialists in vacuum lifting systems and hose lifters for transporting heavy and bulky loads, we extend these principles to include the technical component.

  • Our vacuum hose lifters ensure secure contact with the load, so that it is held reliably and does not slip, even on uneven or smooth surfaces. At the same time, the even weight distribution ensures that the object can be moved in a stable and balanced manner. This avoids one-sided loads and unfavourable postures, which ergonomically optimises the entire movement sequence and significantly reduces physical strain.
  • The ergonomic operating concept with just one lever for suction, lifting and releasing the load enables particularly fast load handling while reducing physical strain. The modular design of the hose lifter also allows easy adaptation to individual requirements.

The combination of ergonomic knowledge and practical technology creates real advantages: fewer breakdowns, greater efficiency and more enjoyment at work.

Areas of application for vacuum hose lifters

Vacuum hose lifters are used wherever loads need to be moved regularly, safely and ergonomically. [Frequently asked questions about correct lifting (FAQ)] Typical areas of application are warehouses and logistics areas, production lines, shipping departments and workplaces with recurring lifting tasks. They are particularly suitable for lifting boxes, sacks, panels, barrels or other workpieces with different surfaces and weights. [What would you like to lift?] The use of a vacuum hose lifter can significantly reduce manual lifting activities and make work processes more efficient and back-friendly.
