When orders pile up at the end of the day, things get busy in the goods dispatch department at ENO telecom. The electronics wholesaler from Nordhorn processes a wide range of products every day, from smartphones and tablets to large-volume electronic devices such as large-screen televisions and sound systems. As the product range grew, so did the logistical requirements and the physical strain on employees. By using modern vacuum lifting technology from Timmer, ENO was able to reorganise its goods dispatch processes to make them more ergonomic and efficient.
High cycle rates and physical strain in goods dispatch
"Individual boxes weighing 30 kilograms can perhaps be carried a few times, but not hundreds of times." - Rainer Büter, authorised signatory at ENO
Especially at the end of the working day, when orders collected throughout the day from customers arrive, the wholesaler has to move numerous parcels in a short period of time. Despite roller conveyors and work tables, manually handling these loads at a high rate placed an enormous physical strain on the workers.
Overview of stress factors:
- Cardboard box weights up to 30 kg
- Large-volume loads
- High repetition frequency (hundreds of lifting operations)
- Time pressure during peak shipping periods
"It was becoming increasingly difficult to keep up the motivation of the employees in the goods dispatch department. Working there was rather unpopular," says Büter.
How was the appropriate lifting technology selected?
Together with logistics planner Logistik Conzept Klette,
ENO analysed its goods dispatch processes. The planning office established contact with Timmer. In close consultation with all parties involved, a solution was developed that is precisely tailored to the requirements on site.
"Our goal was to find a solution for ENO that is both flexible and efficient and that really takes the pressure off employees." - Project Assistant Sven Ludewig, Logistik Conzept Klette
At Timmer's premises, the ENO team tested which lifting system best met the requirements for goods dispatch. The choice fell on the quickLIFT vacuum hose lifter with a rail system measuring five by seven metres.
Why choose quickLIFT?
-
Flexible use for heavy or bulky parcels
- Intuitive operation after brief instruction
- Seamless integration into existing conveyor technology
- Ergonomic relief at high cycle rates
"This is exactly the flexibility we were looking for." - Rainer Büter, ENO telecom GmbH
How is the integration of the lifting system progressing?
The introduction of Timmer's quickLIFT vacuum hose lifter in the goods dispatch department at ENO telecom GmbH went according to plan and without interrupting ongoing operations.
"We were able to integrate the ergonomic lifting aid perfectly into the existing conveyor system in the goods dispatch area." - Tim Kaldeweide, sales engineer at Timmer
The vacuum lifting technology was installed within a few days, with minor adjustments to the logistical conditions being made directly on site. This meant that the lifting system could be put into operation without delay and integrated optimally into the existing material flow.
The ENO team received practical training. After just a short time, employees were able to safely handle the intuitive hose lifter and use it flexibly in their daily work.
Since it was commissioned, the quickLIFT has been assisting daily with lifting, moving and lowering cartons weighing up to 32 kilograms, the maximum permissible weight accepted by transport service providers. Lighter shipments continue to be handled manually, while heavy or bulky parcels are moved specifically with the lifting aid in the goods issue area. This interaction ensures efficient processes and the use of lifting technology in line with requirements.
Benefits of vacuum lifting technology in everyday life:
- Relief for employees working at high cycle rates and performing repetitive lifting tasks
- Ergonomic workstations in goods dispatch
- Increasing efficiency in shipping logistics
- High acceptance due to simple operation and flexible use
"We use the system several hundred times a day. It has made goods dispatch much more attractive." – Rainer Büter, authorised signatory at ENO telecom
Initial internal evaluations also show a reduction in absences due to illness.
The lifting technology supports employee health, prevents fatigue and stabilises shipping processes. At the same time, ENO is strengthening its position as an attractive employer.
Conclusion:
Lifting technology that meets the requirements of goods dispatch.
Through continuous dialogue between ENO, the logistics planner and Timmer, a vacuum lifting technology solution was developed that is optimally tailored to the actual processes.
The quickLIFT immediately demonstrates its benefits, bringing lasting added value for employees, processes and the employer brand.
